Reflections after the weekend.

It’s Sunday evening and I’m supposed to be writing words that will give us energy for the week. What I want to be doing is eating apple pie and drinking coffee. Or tea. I haven’t decided.

I’ve had many conversations over the past three days. Around a funeral. In our small group. Before, during, and after church. With Nancy on a car ride today.

I’m out of words. I’m out of insight. It’s why I’ll be out of the office on Monday.

But I’ll read this psalm in the morning. Maybe you can, too.

Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;
Lord, hear my voice.
Let your ears be attentive
to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.
He himself will redeem Israel
from all their sins.

May I share a comment from a friend about “A Great Work”?

“Like a visit to Narnia, this book is enchanting, humorous, and profound. Jon Swanson untangles the threads of the story of Nehemiah by stepping through centuries and having honest coffee and conversation with the old wall-builder himself.  The dusty history comes alive, and gives direction concise enough for Post-It notes for whatever great work we strive to achieve for God.  We can look to Nehemiah.  He did it first.”

Thanks Jon. Although I have spent time in prayer today, that was my first opportunity to read Scripture. It is always a blessing when your posts pop up in my in-box.

Looking forward to reading the book as my wife has bought it for me for Christmas. In good old-fashioned paperback, shipped across the ocean by not so old-fashioned Amazon.

I have been reflecting a great deal on waiting this weekend. Speaking of waiting I am enjoying your advent ebook since this is an appropriate season for the topic. May The Lord encourage and strengthen you today Jon.
