Rethinking the boundaries

“The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.” Psalm 16:6

Earlier today Jon and I were talking about our current work situations, and he described it as having boundaries. Boundaries have been placed around all that we do. Restrictions about where we can go, how we behave, what we can touch, when we will be able to return to a “normal” routine.

Some of us are angry about those boundaries. We don’t want to be told what to do or how to do it. We want our lives back. And others of us are compliant about everything, willing to “do whatever it takes” to stop the spread of coronavirus. Some are happy to sit within the boundaries, just waiting. Others are prepared to tear them down; 8 weeks of waiting has been enough. I’m feeling that, too.

For the foreseeable future, some of the boundaries are not going away. Life does not feel very pleasant. We are lonely. Some of us have lost our income and don’t know when or whether we will work again. Some of us have sick loved-ones, and we can’t visit them. We simply want to do things the way they were being done before March 15.

So what if we decided to be creative and successful while waiting within the boundaries, whether willingly or grudgingly? Is there a way that some of those boundaries lines could be viewed as opportunities to find pleasant places? How would that change your view of how you’re doing life these days? How would it change my view?

I desire to know God’s presence in the waiting. To find beauty and peace in the pleasant places. What about you?

When I Bagan washing my hands a longer time I was going to say the Lord’s Prayer.
But my mind said Psalm 23.
The Holy Spirit spoke to me making it so very meaningful. Over time it continues to be so as I wash.
Your last couple of sentences reminds me of how this scripture speaks to me.
Thank you, Jon, for your faithfully helping me often think deeper in various ways.
