It works in the background

Most of us are driven. There’s so much to get done and so little time to apply toward cutting down our never-ending lists.

We’re all different when it comes to a sense of duty – some of us are strongly motivated to please our superiors and friends. Others are less driven. But wherever you fall on that spectrum, most mornings you leap or roll out of bed and get after it.

But God created us for work and rest.

Ironically, as I was falling asleep the other night, I had a picture of little machines driving around the pathways of my brain – cleaning up the mess that the day left behind.

According to Scientific American, “Sleep serves to reenergize the body’s cells, clear waste from the brain, and support learning and memory.”

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke stated, “Recent findings suggest that sleep plays a housekeeping role that removes toxins in your brain that build up while you are awake.”

Finally, Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

What a beautiful way God designed us – we need down time!

It’s Good Friday. Knowing that Jesus suffered and died to take away our sins gives us true rest – knowing we’re forgiven. I’m thankful!
