starting over

It’s June 1.

A new month. A new week.

A good time to start over.

Not that we get to hit reset and everything goes away and we get a new game. That would be too easy. that would be too irresponsible. It doesn’t go away.

We can, however, renew our focus. We can refresh.

I wrote most of those words on Sunday night. And then I fell asleep. I woke up, went to bed, planning to finish this post early Monday morning.

I didn’t. Instead, I woke up with a headache and spent the day in bed, sleeping. Finally, about 7:00 pm, I had my first cup of coffee for the day. About 8:00 pm, the headache lifted. And now, at 10:45 pm, I’m finishing this post.

I don’t accept sympathy for my migraines, much, because I can usually identify what I’ve been doing that contributes to the headache. Lack of rest, stress, peculiar eating, and falling asleep while trying to write posts are all contributing factors. Sabbath matters, as I’ve said before, and i probably better do what I say I should do.

That said, the best thing I can do is take a few days off writing. So 300 words a day will be quiet until Friday. That morning, we’ll read a post from my friend Paul Merrill, and then I’ll start back up.

In the meantime? I’ll be getting ready for Hope’s graduation. I’m taking a couple days off work and so it makes sense to shut down some other things as well.

Thanks for your comments and encouragement, off and online. Use the extra three minutes to do your own resting, your own thinking, your own praying.

Let’s all use this break well.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Glad you’re taking the time off, Jon. I’ve been writing on this topic quite a bit during the last couple of weeks myself — and for the same reason. Migraines are also my God-given message that I’m out of balance. Enjoy the time, the graduation, and the trip Nancy talked about on Amy’s blog yesterday!
