looking back at the first week of September

For Labor Day

That’s why this song was in the hymnal. They were on a God trip, heading to Jerusalem because He told them to. This song says that career and business, farm and family, are in God’s hands. We can worry, changing nothing. Or we can gratefully rest.

last or first or simply graced

The owner would take none of it. “We had a deal,” he said. “It’s my field, not yours. You work. I own, risk, pay, hire, fire, decide, manage. You only thought you were first.”

And then Jesus says, “So the last will be first and the first last.”

Be glad that those who got to the end of the day and wondered how to feed their families received grace. Like you.

renewing the mission

This is not an association or a social club or a lecture series. This is Jesus and a group of twelve guys who have become a band of brothers, a team, a family. They have been laughed at together. They have been in the wilderness together. They have seen things that no one else in the history of the world has ever seen. Though they don’t understand everything, and they will still completely fumble the ball and lose sight of the mission, they are the disciples, the followers.

really good seats

They were going to end up in the messy seats, the ones right next to the blood, James within a couple years. John, late in his life, was going to get a preview of the royal cup and the throne.

Her request was answered. God’s way. Not hers.

you need to copy someone

You could spend all your time reading about leadership–which would leave you no time to get around to working with people.

Or you could look at Jesus.
