A review of this week’s posts.
Sometimes there is more than we know
Wondering is okay. Going is more important. What these two followers discovered, after everything was done, was that they had been part of fulfilling a prophecy made centuries earlier. Just by getting a couple donkeys. Just by doing what Jesus told them to do.
I think it still happens. At least for followers who obey.
It is easy to beat up people for their inconsistency, for their apparent abandonment, for their enthusiasm that is as much about the crowd as about understanding. We do it to others, we do it to ourselves.
God doesn’t, however. He arranged a parade for people who would cheer, boo, and kill him. And then forgave and blessed us.
Jesus is making a clear claim to his right to protect this space, both by action and by quotation. He is also making clear that taking a long time to act isn’t the same as ignoring what is happening or not acting at all. Sometimes we confuse ‘hasn’t hurt me yet’ with ‘never going to hurt me.’
In this moment of Pharisaical indignation we see the tension we all face at some point as we follow Jesus. The king in exile in interesting. The king close to power is terrifying.
Those weeds keep coming in

Often our worries relate to fears about not having what we will need, particularly in today’s troubled economy. Jesus clearly says that if we seek God’s kingdom and live righteously, that won’t be a problem. Look at the word “need” – we often substitute that with “want”, and that is not the case. God knows that our needs and wants are not always in the same sphere.
