You are following Jesus.

You may be right up next to him, talking with him all the time, following every step. You may be watching him from the edge of the crowd, trying to figure out how to differentiate the steps he’s taking from the ones everyone is saying he is taking. You may be like a detective, where you are following someone who is following the target. You are following someone who is following Jesus, watching them to see where he is going.

If you are reading this, however, in some way you are following Jesus.

So I’m wondering, what is the next thing that you need to do in that process of following?

What’s the next step that you need to take? What’s the next question you need to find an answer for? What’s the next project that Jesus has on your learning plan?

For example, today I talked with a friend about the phrase “man of peace” from Luke 10:6. I thought, “I need to learn more about that.”

For example, this evening, Nancy and I talked about a really short term study project for a small group of people. Five nights, five subjects. I thought, “I need to sketch out the 5 things that would make great basic conversation points about following Jesus.”

For example, you have been wondering what the word ____  means, how that conversation with ____ would go if you asked what reading the Bible means, what you would say if you decided to talk with God for 10 minutes a day for a week.

You know what that next thing to do is.

But you haven’t decided to do it.

I don’t know what’s stopping you. You might not either. But I’m guessing that it’s time to find out.
