The other day I realized that I wasn’t welcoming people who started reading 300 by subscribing through Mailchimp. I wrote a welcome. I decided to share it with you.
It’s nice to meet you! Thank you for signing up receive 300wordsaday.
Every week day you’ll get an email from me that talks about following Jesus. Sometimes we’ll look at the first followers, sometimes we’ll look at my friends, sometimes we’ll look at struggles I find in my life as a husband, dad, pastor, follower. Always we’ll look at the Bible. And it will be exactly 300 words. The reflection part anyway. (Sometimes I add in links to other posts.)
It might help you to know that many of the people who read these messages don’t have a lot of church connections right now. I understand what that’s like. And if you ever catch me sounding too churchy, let me know. Although I’ve been writing here since January 1, 2009, there is no starting place in reading. There are no prerequisites, because it’s not (usually) a multi-post narrative or a course of study. And it’s okay if you skip a day. Or two.
Right now, I would love for you to do two things.
Thing #1: Reply to this email and tell me what you’re wondering about God right now. Even if it’s something really small or you think it’s odd, just hit reply and let me know. While I can’t reply to everyone, I read every single one of these emails.
Thing #2: Pray for me. Really. Because I want to be as clear and helpful and practical as I can. And sometimes, about 11:00 pm when I’m trying to write, I’m not too clear. So you can help all of us by asking God to help me.
I look forward to hearing from you.

It’s hard to believe that today we have some very popular Christians who have become famous in their teaching. They have written numerous books, held conferences and even have video series. Compared to Stephen, their lives seem very different. They don’t seem like they face the persecution that Stephen did. Whereas, those who are in countries where they must sneak out to go to a church service or hold bible studies in secret locations, are hidden from our eyes. I don’t think most Americans can understand how blessed we are to be free in our ability to worship God and to be public about our relationship with Christ.
