It’s Christmas day. It’s the day we celebrate the incarnation of God.
Not the actual date for birth. There’s plenty of debate from all sides about that. But it’s the day that many people choose to celebrate many things. Family, buying things, favorite music, time off. And for many people that celebration includes God putting on a body nine months before and God starting to walk around nine months (or so) later.
(I mean, I’m guessing that Jesus was an early walker, and talker. Though why do we assume that? Isn’t it possible that, in addition to the son of God understanding poverty from the inside and a questionable birth from the inside, and being despised and rejected of men from the inside, that He might have understood being unremarkable?)
And so, as you work today serving other people or as you spend today being served, may you understand the work of the Servant.
As you gather with people you love or people you don’t love, may you understand being God’s beloved.
As you are with a crowd or are alone, may you understand the presence of God with us.
As you are grieving or as you are comforting, may you understand the presence of the Comforter.
Thanks for stopping by.
Jon
