Last time, we hung up a sign.
Aside from our sign and the connection to Project Rescue’s Home of HOPE, all we had was a general idea about doing a 500-mile Colorado bike ride.
I don’t think we expected anyone to accept our invitation to join us. I secretly hoped they wouldn’t – because we had no clue how to lead a group bike ride.
I’ve learned Jesus doesn’t seem to care much about details and qualifications. It’s almost as if He delights in being part of big, crazy dreams that don’t make any sense.
My fears were realized. Seven people actually seemed to think this was a good idea. A retired couple offered to pull the trailer and serve as support.
FREEDOM TOUR 2013 had a team.

Jon asked me to talk about FREEDOM TOUR 2024, so let’s interrupt the narrative and fast-forward.
I’m preparing and training for the 12th edition of an experience that began with a sign and 7 cyclists. This year’s events will involve more than 300 riders and volunteers.
Raising funds IS NOT our primary goal. When we hung up our sign, we wanted to invite people to ride bikes and follow Jesus. Our motivation was seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly with God.
“Seek justice” brought us to human trafficking and our kids at the Home of HOPE. And since the kids need support, we do what we can.
Jesus held our kids in his hands long before we showed up. He invites us into their story of justice by providing the opportunity for them to live in hope and freedom.
Our Home of HOPE costs about $100,000 per year to operate. Our dream each year is to support the entire cost of operation. Sponsors pay our expenses, so all donations go directly to the kids.
