Provision

Rich Dixon talks about trusting

+++

Last time, some people joined FREEDOM TOUR 2013.

We said we’d ride 500 miles from Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Colorado/New Mexico border at Raton Pass, but we had no detailed routes. We said we’d stay in churches, but we hadn’t contacted any churches.  We said we’d provide meals, but we had no idea how to accomplish that.

You get the idea. Becky and I stepped far beyond our ability and experience, far beyond our comfort zone. It was March. The ride would happen in June. We would look foolish in 3 months when we couldn’t pull this thing off.

I forgot.

I forgot that when you dream a big dream, when you take the time to listen and make sure Jesus is in the dream with you, you’ll often feel unqualified and unprepared. You won’t have enough time or resources.

I forgot that “provision” isn’t up to me. I’m asked to do my best, where I am, with what I have… and trust Him for the rest.

I’m much more at peace when I spend less time worrying about what isn’t there and more time asking Jesus to help me trust Him. (I’m not saying I’m good at doing this, just that I’m better off when I do.)

I’m also not advocating “Don’t Make A Plan” as the best idea for a project. We’ve discovered in 12 years that having a plan is generally a good idea.

But too often, we never begin because we can’t see the end.

“Trust” means starting… and leaving the results to Jesus.

+ + +

I also forgot… this isn’t about me.

It’s about following Jesus, not asking Him to follow us and carry our stuff. It’s about bringing together a community to support a group of kids rescued from human trafficking.
