Go mow. (or something)

On my list right now are several items.

  • Mow the yard
  • Write this post
  • Spend 30 minutes reading anything scholarly
  • Spend 30 minutes sorting in the garage
  • Rehang pictures in the living room.

You know the kind of list.

And we struggle to know what to do next.

For some of us, that struggle is about pleasing people. For others, that struggle is about making God happy (or not making God mad). For still others, the struggle is about being as productive as possible or as helpful as possible or as easy as possible.

Right?

As I look at that list, I realize that each of them is good, any of them would help restore some order in my heart and head (and surroundings), all of them are appropriately helpful to others. I realize that I worry about picking what is most urgent without considering what may be important. I know that I can actually accomplish all of them when I do them rather than worrying about order and impact and outcome.

For you this weekend. You and God know what to do. And now you have my blessing to read. You have my blessing to rest. You have my blessing to laugh. You have my blessing to weep. You have my blessing to love. You have my blessing to eat and sleep and heal and leave.

As for me? This is done. It’s time to mow.
