No really. Let go.

I talked to you on Friday about letting go of a couple things right now.

You may have read that and thought, “Good for you, Jon.”

Thanks. But I ended that post with a real invitation for you. And so I start this week with a question: “What did you let go of?”

Seriously. If you are feeling weary or overwhelmed or stretched too far, what did you, what will you, let go of?

I know that we often talk about letting go of worry, because Paul says that we’re not to worry, but instead, can let God know about what’s on our minds and hearts and plates.

But letting go of worry often isn’t the only helpful step to take when we’re feeling overwhelmed.

  • You can step back from things you volunteered to do. For a day or a week or ever.
  • You can accept a grade of pass/fail instead of A+ on lawn edging or car washing or making homemade whatever.
  • You can create an out-of-office note in your personal email that says, “I’ll get back to you in days rather than minutes.”
  • You can agree with yourself that you are not contractually obligated to have or share opinions.
  • You can stop apologizing that you are feeling adrift because your loved one died.

Some of the things that cause us worry are things we don’t have to be doing at all. Others are things that we needn’t apologize about.

Like writing 300 words. I don’t have to write that many (or more).
