Butterflies

Rich Dixon has another tough question.

FREEDOM TOUR 2016 – turns out, when you invite people to get real, sometimes it happens.

The topic was Freedom. We read a story of healing including this line:

Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

We talked about wounds, mostly the deeper, often more painful, hidden ones. We talked a bit about physical healing, about why people like Rich don’t get healed.

But this wasn’t about that.

We talked about butterflies, about why there’s a butterfly on our jersey.

We know butterflies are a symbol of rebirth. Crawling caterpillar to ugly, apparently-dead chrysalis to beautiful butterfly.

We include the butterfly in our logo because we believe we’re reborn by faith. Jesus says we can go in peace.

Then came the REAL question.

What on your journey keeps you from flying free?

Good question for our team. Good question for you and me.

It Jesus says we’re healed, if He says we can go in peace, if He says we’re done with the chrysalis stage – what keeps us from flying free like butterflies?

We all have this stuff, and it isn’t easy to share. When a team comes together and people open their hearts about these sorts of wounds, it feels a bit like holy ground. Toss into the mix the emotions around daily conversations about child sex trafficking, and I’ll bet you can imagine the hugs and tears and bonding that happens.

But beyond appreciating all that, it’s still a good question – what keeps you and me from flying free?

+ + +

I’ll close with an image. Imagine 22 children, trapped in the horrors of trafficking, each of them destined to life as a chrysalis.

Now imagine 22 gorgeous butterflies flying free, playing and cavorting and laughing – all with Jesus standing among them.

That’s worth sweating and sacrificing for.
