The singers and their families.

For more than two decades, Nancy (my wife) has worried about the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir.

We can use words other than worry, of course. Cared about. Cared for. Thought about most of the time. And not just the choir. Mostly the singers. And their families.

She started as a volunteer and quickly became part of the staff in various roles. Though she understands music, she wasn’t working on the music side. She’s been on the logistics and money side.

Before a couple years ago, when she was working full-time, she was on the sorting through logistics and thinking about details side of things. And handling the money. Then she stepped back to working part time, doing just the latter.

But always caring about and for the kids and the parents. Paying the bills, billing the families, figuring out how to spread payments out, how to offer encouragement. Aware of people’s needs. And how to make the most of resources.

We spend time visiting thrift shops and discount stores. Mostly that’s what we do for dates. But she’s always looking for office supplies. Snacks for singers for big events.

And always caring about and caring for the singers. And their families

And praying.

That’s what she often does in the middle of the night, on a Sunday afternoon when I’m at work, other times. She talks to God, asking for wisdom and discernment and the safety and well-being of singers and parents and coworkers.

And now she’s in the last few days of fully retiring from the choir. There’s a new person learning the finance side. She’s reminding coworkers of what they need to do to help the new person.

She’s done good work. And the choir will go on.

But for the last 20 years or so, Nancy’s actual work has been caring about and caring for the singers and their families and talking to God about all of them. It’s been behind her behind-the-scenes work.

I thought it was worth mentioning.

Thank you, Nancy. Ily
