Rich Dixon invites us to look closer:
+++
Last time we looked at one of my favorite verses in Scripture.
“Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”
To wrap up an old year, we focused on forgetting and letting go. Now, to begin 2026, let’s look at the last two lines.
As a speaker, I sometimes invite listeners to look around the room, to look out the window if possible. To imagine themselves walking along, surrounded by the new thing God is doing right now in their lives.
Because the verse doesn’t say “I might do a new thing.” He emphatically says IT’S HAPPENING.
The question is simple – Will we perceive it?
Will we look past the busyness and the distractions to seek the most important thing – the new thing God is doing. Right here, right now.
Perhaps it’s the most important question of the new year. God IS DOING a new thing. Now it springs up.
Will we perceive it?
As with most things, I’m better at talking about this than doing it. I absolutely believe God is doing something new in my life. But if I’m honest, I get caught up in same-old-same-old until days and weeks pass by, and I’m sure something amazing has happened right in front of my eyes – and I missed it.
More importantly, I think about the kids at the Home of Hope. To them, a new year is just another day on a calendar. The funds we raise for The FREEDOM TOUR provide a space for them to know Jesus.
My prayer is that they will somehow, in the midst of chaos, perceive, believe in, and trust the new thing God is doing in their lives.
Same for you and me.
