Three things.

That’s what Nancy said to write about. “Three things.”

I think it’s because she had a list of three things to get done today. And then she lost track of the list. All that focusing to pick the most important things for the day and then she had to remember.

While I’ve been writing this, I’ve discovered that I can’t link to my photos on Flickr; that a bunch of people I know are at the Colts game, apparently; that some other people are disgruntled or delighted for a variety of reasons. And that I still haven’t written this post.

(I’ll simply reuse a photo from some other post. That will let me accomplish one thing anyway.)

Sometimes we need to make lists of the the next three things we need to do. Or six or one. But I also thought of a different list, one that sets priorities rather than tasks, one that can shape all my lists.

It’s from Micah, it’s familiar to many of us, it’s simple (not complex) but hard (not easy).

He has told you, O man, what is good;
    and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
    and to walk humbly with your God?

Three simple things: Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly with God.

Resisting injustice counts. Acknowledging mistakes counts. Offering forgiveness counts. Being passionately devoted to kindness counts. Accepting forgiveness counts. Abandoning every agenda but this one counts.

Making a new list tomorrow counts. And it will be better if we remember these three things:  Do justice. Love kindness. Walk humbly with God.

    Thanks, Jon.
    My favorite Bible verse. In the midst of today’s shouting, condemning, accusing, “my god is bigger than your god”…etc. It helps to remind me what’s really important; what my job really is.
