A prayer for Trinity Sunday.

God.

We crave wisdom.
We want to know the next thing to do.
We want to know the next thing to do is the best thing.
Is the right thing.
Is the thing that will mean something.
Is the thing that will help us, will help others, will help you.

We want to know why this hurts, why this matters, why this happened to us.

dadWe confess that actually, we want answers more than we want wisdom.
We confess that actually, we want comfort more than we want wisdom,
Comfort for now more than wisdom for always.
We confess that we want the easy thing to do more than the hard best thing to do.
We confess that we crave us as much as we crave wisdom.

Forgive us, God.
Forgive us the ways that we have chosen us rather than others this week.
Forgive us the ways that we have chosen us and others rather than you this week.
Forgive us the ways that we have done what we knew wasn’t wise, or didn’t do what we knew was wise.

Perhaps, God, we need to crave courage more than wisdom., more than comfort.
Perhaps, God, we need to crave you more than anything.
Perhaps, God, we simply need to stop craving and start accepting you.
God in three persons, God almighty, Lord Jesus Christ, Spirit of truth.

As we begin ordinary time, the days and weeks between Pentecost and Advent, help us to hear what you say, do what you say, rest in what you say.
Help us accept your love for us.

May it be so.
