A prayer for the twenty-fourth Sunday of ordinary time.

God-

It’s hard for us to understand that you are God and we are not.
It’s hard to remember that we don’t have to do everything.
It’s hard for some of us to stop and laugh and rest and not be productive. Forgetting that being productive means stopping and laughing and resting.
And, on this morning, letting someone else preach.
And on this morning, running a 5K in Grand Rapids.

Thank you for Dan.
Thank you for Nancy.
Thank you for Andrew and Allie and Hope and Dan.
Thank you for health for the moment and strength for the moment.
Thank you for things I can’t describe here.
Thank you for the people who are reading these words.
God, on this day, and always, forgive them, bless them, and speak to them in the way that they know that it’s you.
Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

In the picture, Andrew is awarding the trophy for the Grand Rapids Champs tournament. It’s a cool story for another morning. But it’s possible that God smiles as much at us as I do at Andrew when he’s doing something to encourage others.
