I could choose to become an expert in virus transmission and treatment.
I could choose to become an expert in political analysis.
I could choose to become an expert on health system supply lines.
I could choose to become an expert on anticipatory dread.
I could build my expertise by reading everything I could about these, by following every link no matter how unfiltered and unfounded. I would build my capacity by sharing everything I find so I can read it later and everyone can read it now, by critiquing or celebrating every solution and every speaker. I could continue this paragraph with more words that would add to the noise and the anger and the frustration.
I could choose to become an expert on contentment that is not criticism or fatalism.
I could choose to step aside from the urge to tell everyone how things should be fixed and could learn to quiet my soul.
O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;
Nor do I involve myself in great matters,
Or in things too difficult for me.
Surely I have composed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child rests against his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child within me.
O Israel, hope in the Lord
From this time forth and forever.
