God.
“You always live to intercede for us.”
That’s what the writer says about you, Jesus.
That you are able to save completely those who come to God through you because you always live to intercede for us.
I don’t think that means that you will do what ever we want.
I think that means when we are watching this life slip away,
you are drawing us close as we are crying to you.
I think that means when we are feeling abandoned,
you are drawing us close as we are crying to you.
I think that means when we are failing at every turn,
you are drawing us close as we are crying to you.
I think that means when we feel as far from you as the east is from the west,
you are already close as we are crying to you.
God.
You never promise complete understanding,
not of your ways, not even of our own.
Because you know, I think, that if we understood, we might decide we don’t need you.
Because you know that we cannot understand.
Job understood that.
But you did promise you would be with us.
And you proved it by coming to be with us in ways Job would have loved.
And maybe he did.
When he showed you his scars, you showed him yours.
And then he understood.
Help us rest in you, forgiven.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen
