Thinking again about a great work.

Starting next Monday, I’m inviting an old friend to fill in for me for a bit.

It’s me. I’m the old friend.

Jon from ten years ago spent a year reading and teaching and writing about Nehemiah, both a person and a book from the Bible. The result of that year was a book called A Great Work: A Conversation With Nehemiah For People (Who Want To Be) Doing Great Works.

For me, the conversations that I had with Nehemiah were formative. The way I’ve interacted with God and others and myself is different. As I’m starting to look a decade forward, and as I’m looking back at the changes that have happened in the last decade, spending some time reflecting what it means to be doing a great work may help you and me.

Starting next week, I’ll be sharing from that book. Think of it as a summer reading club.

(Given the numbers I have on book sales, many of you haven’t read it yet.)

Because the book was written with chapters longer than 300 words, some of the posts from the book will be a little longer, but no more than 500 words. And I’ll make sure you can find your way through the conversations.

If you want to just read it through, you can buy the book and unsubscribe for now (though you’ll miss my friends. Paul will continue visiting us on the first Friday of the month. And my friend Rich will continue to write about his great work on Wednesdays.)

If you are an audiobook person, I created an edition with Amazon’s virtual voice. It was an odd feeling to have a voice for Nehemiah, other than the one that was in my head while writing this book.

In what I’ve been reading so far, I think I have a lot to learn from me. And from Nehemiah.
