… but God can.
Recently I’ve spent time with different friends who are upset about what’s happening around them. More than ever, the world seems to be characterized by constant change and lots of the change looking bad.
But as I step back, I realize that worrying about what’s happening and trying to figure out what could be done differently are both completely fruitless.
Jesus said, “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?”
As we think about how little impact we are able to make on what’s happening, we need to remember that God likes us to pray. And God’s perspective is totally different than ours – there might be a huge effect coming out of our faithfulness in praying that we may never see.
“Lord, help!” they cried in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He calmed the storm to a whisper
and stilled the waves.
What a blessing was that stillness
as he brought them safely into harbor!
I’m sure as you read that, you thought it was referring to the followers of Jesus nearly drowning in a boat during a storm. No! It’s from Psalm 107, verses 28-30.
Let’s pray, trusting God with the rest.
Paul Merrill writes here every first Friday.
He generated the above painting using Copilot.
