Experiencing Jesus in new ways

Here are some quick ways you can experience Jesus more in your daily life. (I’m no expert; this is a list of ideas for me too.)

  • Talk to Jesus out loud when you’re walking somewhere. (No worries, people will just think you’re talking on your cell phone with really small headphones.)
  • Talk about Jesus with others. If you talk about Jesus, you may discover new things. Ask them questions about who they think Jesus is and what He means to them. Listen to what they have to say. If you have a Bible handy, you can refer to what it says about Jesus too.
  • Call someone you haven’t talked with in more than two years and ask them about how or if they have been experiencing Jesus.
  • Sit as Jesus’ feet and just be quiet for a few minutes. In Luke 10:38-42, that’s just what Mary did. Martha, her sister was caught up in all the things she felt like she should have been doing. Jesus said that Mary had the right idea.
  • Imagine Jesus sitting next to you when you’re driving somewhere alone. Talk with Him then. Then be quiet for a few minutes and listen.
  • Trust Jesus in a new area today. Stretch yourself in that trusting. Take a few minutes at the very beginning of your day and ask Jesus to show you a new way to trust Him that day. Doing this with your partner or friend is even more stretching.
  • Ask Jesus to break something in your life that has been plaguing you. Keep asking Him during the following days. Ask a friend to pray about that with you too.
  • Tell Jesus, “I want more of you in my life.” See what He does. Be patient while you wait.

(Paul Merrill writes here every First Friday.)

Thanks Paul I needed to hear this today. I want to experience more of Jesus, you provided some really good ideas. As I was mowing the lawn yesterday I started thinking about how much time I spend thinking, solving, being anxious – how little time reflecting/observing what God is doing or saying. I start to listen then a flood of distracting thoughts. My first thought is to trust Jesus to transform as I take advantage of your suggestions to see this as his gift to me. Thanks for providing the present. 😉
