The bike in the basement

I ride in secret these days.

When I rode a bike to my last job, I kept it in my office during the day. It was safe there and protected from the elements.

a bicycle parked in a bike rack in a basementMy new office has a bike rack in the underground garage. My bike is safe there and fully protected from the elements.

The problem is, I’m now missing out on all the questions and kudos that came from parking a bike in my office… “Oh, you rode your bike to work today? How great!” … “I would ride, but the route is unsafe,” or “So that’s how you stay so healthy!”

I loved people knowing how environmentally aware I was and how my regular ride was such a good way of doubling up on commute and exercise time.

Now, no one can see. No one knows. (Well, there is the irony of you and all the other 300 Words a Day readers seeing this.)

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.” –Matthew 6:1
